The New Colossus

The following two items I found on the web.  I was thinking about the statue of liberty and the poem that I knew was inscribed on the Statue of Liberty. And it is called:

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

 Emma Lazarus

It Works

If no one has told you they love you today, let me be the first, he replied as he shook my hand.

If I would have known I would never see him again, I would have replied differently.

Because the narrator thought at the time. Today?

In fact, I do not recall.

And I have deserved the telling.

And if you happen to see him. My scars are not as painful.

Thank you!  That I had not discarded our Craftsman’s tools

And I love you too!
